Graduation 2024

B&Q
B&Q, the DIY and home improvements retailer, is a big advocate of apprenticeships and offers a variety of courses to their employees from HR & finance, to retail and leadership.

They really wanted to shout about their 2024 graduates and asked us to film their graduation celebration.

The Brief

Celebrating the Class of 2024

Our brief was to highlight the apprenticeships, and capture the essence of the celebration. This would help to spread the awareness of B&Q apprenticeships and encourage other employees to develop their skills and enhance their career.

Filming

Capturing the energy and excitement

The filming took place at the ICC in Birmingham where we aimed to capture the entire day; all the way from the graduates arriving to the throwing of the mortarboards. Throughout the day we spoke to graduates and B&Q board members to find out about the apprenticeships on offer and how proud they all are. Our shots involved movement and smiles to ensure we captured the energy and excitement of the day.

Editing

Immersing the viewers

Putting together the edit for this project was a lot of fun as you could sense the feeling of accomplishment through the footage. It was important that we showed the graduates’ pride through the film as well as encourage other employees to get excited about doing an apprenticeship. An upbeat and inspirational track was chosen to portray the emotions from the day and we used live sound from the event to immerse the viewer. It was crucial that we grabbed the viewer's attention straight away, so we chose to open the film with match cuts of the graduates looking down the lens and used B&Q’s internal font and the recognisable orange to reinforce the brand.

The impact

Showcasing B&Q apprenticeships

This was a fun and engaging project to work on where we created a two minute video used to excite, encourage and inform other B&Q employees of the apprenticeships on offer to them. The video has since been shared and watched on B&Q’s LinkedIn page, their internal social media platform, intranet, apprenticeship providers and their leadership teams.
