The Hawkhurst Gang

Client: The Novium

The Hawkhurst Gang were one of the largest and most feared smugglers during the 18th century. The began in the village of Hawkhurst in Kent and grew to dominate all smuggling between Kent to Dorset. One of their biggest raids took place on the Custom's House at Poole Harbour. It was here they stole a huge shipment worth £500 in 1747. Following this a huge search was organised by the Customs Service and eventually captured and tried some of the gang members at Chichester.

We have been working with The Novium Museum in Chichester to help bring this story of the Poole raid to life through an engaging animation for school children.
